Storytelling & Gaming- Week 40 Part 2

Semester  B :  Week 40 Student:  Tai Ser Yeet (22064351) Programme:  BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Task:  Week 40's Class Task WEEK 40 (Part 2) Adding Sound Effects I chose a light-hearted, cartoonish theme song and downloaded that from YouTube. After that, I imported the music into Adobe Premiere Pro, selected the parts I wanted to use from the theme song and mashed them together. In terms of the little sound effects that the character or the environment produces, I would get that from this website called freesound.org. Unpopular opinion but this is my favorite part of the whole project! I added volume keyframes at the start and end of the audio clip to create a smooth and seamless fade-in and fade-out transition. I also included soft environmental noise ...

Storytelling & Gaming- Week 40 Part 1

Semester  B :  Week 40 Student:  Tai Ser Yeet (22064351) Programme:  BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Task:  Week 40's Class Task WEEK 40  (Part 1) I changed my mind again after trying to move the assets frame by frame in Illustrator. It was harder and more tedious hence, I went to my final resort which was to use Adobe Animate.  A few keys that I used throughout the whole process:  F5- select all the vertical sections to make them longer Double-click to make the yellow line appear so you can drag F7- put keyframes to the duration you want I am using motion tween to make the objects move from one direction to the other. I did not make the man walk because it was taking too much time and the main point of this project is how the story is told visually. I also split each scene into a few sub-scenes so that it is less confusing and manageable. Besides that, I alternate between frame-by-frame animation and selecting motion tween for different ele...

Storytelling & Gaming- Week 39

Semester  B :  Week 39 Student:  Tai Ser Yeet (22064351) Programme:  BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Task:  Week 39's Class Task WEEK 39 I decided to take a break from developing the sub-plot of my storyline to focus on the ideal art direction I wanted to take because my previous animation idea required a lot of drawing which admittedly, isn't my strongest pursuit. I also believe that by having a clear idea of how I want my animation to look, I can accurately plot my narrative better. With that, I went onto Pinterest to gain inspiration from other creators and I stumbled upon an interesting art concept which seems simple to execute. After browsing the platform, my attention was immediately drawn to Edel Rodriguez's artworks which can be seen below. My Observation of the Artwork strong sense of graphic, bold and expressive imagery use of symbolism used charcoal and paper medium, leading to rough edges around the elements organic-like shapes evoked tension and an u...

Storytelling & Gaming- Week 38

Semester  B :  Week 38 Student:  Tai Ser Yeet (22064351) Programme:  BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Task:  Week 38's Class Task WEEK 38 This week, I finalised the main story of my project. Initially, I wanted to make my project about my job application journey using a fork as the protagonist but after much consideration, I decided to scratch that idea. This is because I believe that the storyline was not interesting enough. Plus with the hand-drawn art style I am aiming for, I knew the easiest way to excel in the module with the least amount of time is to choose vector graphics as my art direction. Creating a divisional chart to map out the plot of my story is ideal for me because it allows me to structure my storyline better and gives me an idea of its flow. Latest Idea My latest idea was inspired by the Dead Poets Society released on 22 September 1989. According to the Disney+ website about the film, " a charismatic new professor, John Keating, inspires...

Storytelling & Gaming- Week 28

Semester  B :  Week 28 Student:  Tai Ser Yeet (22064351) Programme:  BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Task:  Week 28's Class Task WEEK 28 Lecture Notes According to Cherry, 2022, she states that "In this phenomenon, people feel a sense of unease or even revulsion in response to humanoid robots that are highly realistic."  "The animated human might look almost real, but that slight chasm between looking “almost human” and “fully human” leaves you feeling discomfort or even revulsion." (Cherry, 2022) In my opinion, I think what caused the discomfort and dislikeness towards these realistic but not real characters is the break of trust between both parties. For instance, you would think that you can trust this "person" because it resembles so much like a human but deep down, you already know that it is just a robot. It is as though someone is trying to deceive you into believing their facade.

Storytelling & Gaming- Week 27

Semester B :  Week 27 Student:  Tai Ser Yeet (22064351) Programme:  BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Task:  Week 27's Class Task WEEK 27 Research on Idea Because I did not feel like drawing, I decided to tell a story using basic elements such as simple shapes and incorporate design principles which include proximity, unity, contrast, etc. Bauhaus Animation I like the animation style in this video where they use basic shapes to tell a story - it is simple yet conveys the message very well. Geometric Animation CHAIR (hand-drawn animated short by Hiroshi Mori) This human is trying to grip onto a chair that is tied to a rope. This piece of work inspired me to turn an intangible into a physical object. For example, grief does not go away, it stays with you and you just learn how to deal with it. So grief is an intangible thing and you can make it into a feather that experiences grief. "Anxiety" - Stopmotion Made By Therese The way the creator animates the character...

Storytelling & Gaming- Peer Evaluation

Semester A:  Week 1- Week 10 Student:  Tai Ser Yeet (22064351) Programme:  BA (Hons) Digital Media Design Task:  Peer Evaluation PEER EVALUATION Introduction Name of game: Oink-Oink Team members & Roles Ben - 3D Asset Creation & UI Development Ser Yeet - Coding, Character Animation & UI Development Janet - Character Design & Character Animation Neha - Landscape Mosad - Landscape Individual Evaluation 1. Ben Ben was initially responsible for creating the 3D assets such as the hay, barn house, fences, Welcome Sign, and more. However after Neha did not complete the UI Design a few days before the submission deadline, he stepped up and finished it during class with Josh. Some of his 3D assets were not imported into the game's landscape hence, it would be as though he did very little but that was not the case. Overall, I am satisfied with the high-quality work he produced for our game and look forward to collaborating with him again. 2. Ser Yeet (My...
