Lecture Notes

According to Cherry, 2022, she states that "In this phenomenon, people feel a sense of unease or even revulsion in response to humanoid robots that are highly realistic."

"The animated human might look almost real, but that slight chasm between looking “almost human” and “fully human” leaves you feeling discomfort or even revulsion." (Cherry, 2022)

In my opinion, I think what caused the discomfort and dislikeness towards these realistic but not real characters is the break of trust between both parties. For instance, you would think that you can trust this "person" because it resembles so much like a human but deep down, you already know that it is just a robot. It is as though someone is trying to deceive you into believing their facade.
