WEEK 14
Class Notes
| Darkening Image Corners |
- darken the corners of the background image to improve legibility
- JPEG - export as a JPEG, not for web and devices
- Always insert an image and not copy and paste because it gradually reduces the quality, unlike text. #
- Choose either book now or coming soon for the CTA
For the long banner, the branding guidelines recommend placing the text at the bottom of the poster and the image at the top. Because your image is the background and you don't have an isolated image, you can move the title up to fill the space. Hence, don't put the date next to the RA logo.
- Make a copy of the original file so you have an editable version
- Make sure you only have one artboard in the final file, or else it will appear in the pdf
- Convert all text to outline
- Refer to the phone screenshot of the settings for the export
- Done!
According to the brand guidelines, the RA logo should have a padding value equivalent to the stem width of the letter R. To make my life easier, I created a makeshift bounding box by grouping a transparent rectangle shape with the RA logo.
Similar to the catalogues and brochures, I brought the image over to Photoshop and darkened the text areas with the gradient tool. That it includes the top left corner, the middle and the bottom left corner. Since I could directly import a Photoshop file into Illustrator, any changes made to the original file will automatically be updated in the Illustrator file.
I explored two options for the Long Banner and decided to go for the one on the left (which was unedited) because intuitively, it felt cleaner and more fitting for a large poster.
