CHRISTMAS BREAK

Making a Prototype

After a major issue between Morrisons and the team at InPost Locker, I gave in and bought the adapter kit from CEX for £30++. It came in two days.

I plugged everything together and installed the Windows SDK driver on my PC. Everything up until this point went smoothly, as I already had a rough idea of how the setup was going to be based on a physical tutorial I had with Steve a few months ago.

To create the particle look, I used the particlesGPU operator, threshold TOP, Ramp TOP, point transform TOP and the multiply TOP. I also made sure that the resolution was standardised amongst all operators to ensure that the final outcome isn't stretched. Later, I experimented with the velocity, size, and magnitude of each particle until I was satisfied.

Video Input With Threshold TOP

A useful tip I learned from this video tutorial to reduce the GPU load is selecting a set of nodes in a container and choosing 'Collapse' from the right-click menu. Collapsing is a great way to make networks more modular and easier to read.

Gesture Recognition
One of Mike's tutorial feedback was implementing some kind of trigger using gesture recognition to switch between various scenes. I've only managed to find a few YouTube tutorials that teach you how to create basic body tracking/ hand tracking triggers, such as a swipe. This limits my ability to do more complex and unique hand gestures that will have a lesser chance of being activated when a user steps into the set parameter.

The creator of the work below used a very similar concept to what was described earlier.

I came across this suggestion by Google Gemini and thought it was a great piece of reference for the 3 visual states based on the Laban Movement Analysis.

Inspiration for Brand Identity

"Design that communicates mood as much as meaning"

"It’s about feeling intentional, immersive, and human."

Both of these quotes solidify my decision to choose this liquid design.

I didn't know how wide the margins should be, but in the end, I went with 0.5 inches for the cover and 1 inch for the rest of the pages.

Things to do on the 5th:
  1. Export project on the paid version of Touch Designer
  2. Try displaying a basic prototype (particles one) using a projector in A238 (Update: Did it, but the piece of work I used was wonky, and when I used the projector to display my work on the wall, it cast a shadow of me, blocking a part of the visual)
  3. Steve's feedback on Risk Assessment and Gantt Chart
  4. Clarification from Steve on documentation (Update: It is more on the user journey or creating a storyboard)
  5. Cite images
  6. Get more responses for the survey (Update: Made a new form to collect data from non-dancers)
  7. Can i do two pages side by side like a booklet? Answer: Don't do a booklet, have everything portrait but landscape for the Gantt Chart
  8. Compulsory to do health and safety? Answer: Yes
