WEEK 6
Takeaway From Class
- Create images on any platform, but the final artwork needs to be in Illustrator
- Follow Dean's slides on canvas because there are a lot of boxes to tick
- Have a rough template when designing the RA poster ( so that you know the placement of the text - in situ)
- Bear in mind the different sizes of printed material, e.g. banners, posters, billboards, so that when you're creating the images, you can create all of them in one shot instead of amending them multiple times
Discovery for RA Project
- Pantone- for solid colours and for brand logos, when you want the colour to be printed exactly the same every single time
- CMYK- if you look closely, it is made up of hundreds of different colours and shades
- Very drawn to the texture of the paint- very viscous
- Makes you think about how the colours that we often see everywhere in supermarkets, buildings, and classrooms are controlled by Pantone
- Even though they didn't invent the shades but they standardised it
- "I see Pantone as a language"
- "Pantone doesn't own the colours but rather helps us identify and produce those colours"
- "Seeing your work in the wild, it's a great sense of pride. The effort that you put in has come to life the way you intended, and is now something for people to connect with. Takes what we do and makes it tangible."
Lemon Project
For the post introducing the first series, I created two versions, playing around with the size of text. I also got my friend, who also studies design, to provide constructive criticism on it. In the end, I chose Version 1 because the main focus was on the title in the middle, so any text on the side should be smaller or more subtle.
After the intro post, I played around with Ella's picture, focusing on her hands, which represented the lemon's leaves.
I was shifting text around when I had an idea to use typography to mimic leaves falling to the ground. It felt weird to just have leaves, so I created a tree on the side, and it came together very nicely.

For Naana, I wanted to explore something unconventional or something out of my comfort zone, and the first step was that I didn't want the picture to sit upright. I turned it sideways in Version 2, and it was surprisingly interesting. She looked like she was playing an electric guitar, so I added some lines on the side to resemble that. In the end, I went with Version 2.
